Two new laboratories within the NAWA Polish Returns Programme
New laboratories researching pathogen-host interactions will be set up at IBB PAS due to the NAWA Polish Returns Programme winners: Dr Michał Wandeland Dr Maciej Nogalski.
NAWA – Polish Returns Programme
Dr Michał Wandel, currently working at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge UK, will join the IBB to lead the laboratory investigating the molecular mechanisms of innate immunity and inflammation. Dr Wandel plans to focus his research on host-pathogen interaction during bacterial and fungal infection.
Dr Maciej Nogalski is currently working at Princeton University, USA. At IBB PAS, Dr Nogalski will lead the laboratory investigating the molecular mechanisms of how viruses exploit non-coding satellite repeat RNAs with a long term aim of understanding the biological roles of this novel class of regulatory RNAs in other pathogenic states, i.e. cancer.
Launch of laboratories is planned on the second half of 2021. These two laboratories will bolster host-pathogen interections studies at IBB.
We congratulate both laureates and wish spectacular success in their research!
