We invite everyone to join the 28th Science Picnic. The lead theme for 2025 is: Outer space!

The IBB PAS stand (Strefa Zdrowia – G7) will be titled: Microcosmos – the world of viruses and microorganisms
Demonstration: Landing of a phage on a bacterium
Viruses are the most numerous group found in nature, they can infect all living cells. We will present viruses infecting bacteria, which resemble landing spaceships. Although viruses are very small, we will demonstrate how we can see them. We will also show how the DNA sequence is determined and what it can tell us.
Visitors will be able to get information on the topics presented, see pictures of viruses, watch simple experiments involving them, learn about the possibility of using bacteriophages in medicine and about the dangers that bacteriophages pose in the food industry. You will be able to test yourself in decoding DNA and use your imagination by constructing models of viruses from magnetic blocks.
Demonstration: Sent to outer space
This part will be about organisms that travel in spacecraft, about beneficial and pathogenic microorganisms, and ways to microbiologically control spacecraft before launch and during flight.
We will show and tell about plants and a certain elegant nematode that have been sent to space. We will also try to find out if rockets carry hitchhikers.
You will also have the opportunity to look at various specimens under a binocular, including: nematodes, hydroponically grown plants, cultures of bacteria and fungi on microbiological media used in laboratories.
Demonstration: Cosmic tattoos
We will present a diverse and amazing world enchanted in tattoos. Things you usually can’t see (chemical molecules, viruses, microorganisms) will be there for you to take in the form of a tattoo.
Visitors will be able to choose a design and then have a washable tattoo applied to their hand. You will hear interesting information about the symbols and designs you choose!
