Dr Piotr Włodzimierz receives MNiSW scholarship for outstanding young scientists
Dr Piotr Włodzimierz has been awarded the Minister of Science and Higher Education Scholarship for Outstanding Young Scientists. In the 21st edition of the competition, only 230 scientists were selected from 1,640 applicants.
Piotr Włodzimierz conducts research on the evolution of eukaryotic genome organization, basing on long-read sequencing data. His particular focus is on centromeric sequences, which play a role in cell division. Their structural diversity appears to contradict their highly important, universal function. For the purpose of his bioinformatics work, he has developed software for the investigation of tandem repeat sequences, leading to publications in journals such as Science and Nature.
Congratulations on this prestigious distinction!
