Agnieszka Kruszewska, deputy director of IBB PAS, will be involved in the meeting as an expert. The program includes a screening of the (…)

Researchers from IBB PAS described a mechanism for selective degradation of small RNAs

Members of the Laboratory of Non-coding RNA and Genome Rearrangements, together with a team at the Institut Jacques Monod at Université Paris Cité and I2BC at Université Paris-Saclay (France), have identified a Paramecium homolog of Gametocyte specific factor 1 (Gtsf1) and have shown that it is essential for the selective degradation of small RNAs. The (…)

DAINA Grant for Prof. Matthias Bochtler

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Matthias Bochtler (Laboratory of Genome Engineering IBB PAS), together with Prof. Gintautas Tamulaitis (Vilnius University), have been awarded a grant in the NCN programme DAINA 3, intended for projects involving Polish-Lithuanian collaboration. They will jointly carry out the project “Novel effectors and terminators of antiviral CRISPR-Cas signaling pathways.” (…)

The dynamics of mRNA deadenylation

Scientists from IBB PAS, IIMCB, Aarhus University and University of Turku analyzed the dynamics of deadenylation of polyadenosine (pA) tails of mRNA in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae under basal and stress conditions. pA tails are an evolutionarily conserved modification of the 3′ end of mRNA, which is required for export of the transcript from the (…)

Investigating antibiotics resistance of Streptococcus pyogenes

Scientists from IBB PAS (DNA Sequencing and Synthesis Facility and Laboratory of Bacterial Drug Resistance) have studied Polish samples of antibiotic-resistant isolates of the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes, a specialized human pathogen which is among the top 10 causes of death from infectious diseases. In this study they describe detection of a novel hybrid Integrative-Conjugative Element, (…)

A half-day meeting on Molecular Plant Microbe Interactions at IBB

If you are interested in how microorganisms interact with plants at the molecular level and how this affects crops productivity, then on behalf of the Organizers we invite you to the W. Gajewski Auditorium (room E) on 14th of Nov. at 10:45 am for a series of 4 lectures. You will not only learn about (…)

Dr Paweł Ćwiek from IBB PAS receives DKMS Foundation research grant

We are pleased to announce that the DKMS Foundation grants for blood cancer research have been awarded to dr Paweł Ćwiek from IBB PAS and dr Tadeusz Kubicki from the Poznań Medical University. Congratulations! The project “Identification of the molecular mechanism of depletion of anti-CD19 CAR-T CD4+ by DLBCL lymphoma cells” was awarded in the (…)

New research on populations of Antarctic krill

Researchers from the University of Gdańsk and IBB PAS (Department of Antarctic Biology) have analyzed the age, size and distribution of populations of Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba)  in the western Antarctic and have assessed their availability to predators such as penguins of the genus Pygoscelis. Krill plays a key role in the Antarctic ecosystem, where (…)
