Gene regulation in Bacteroides fragilis
How does Bacteroides fragilis adapt to the dynamic environment of the human gut? A newly published review paper by Daniel Ryan (IBB PAS) explores this question. Bacteroides fragilis employs a modular gene-regulatory network strategy to respond to its environment. Rather than relying on global regulators, it coordinates survival via modular switches such as DNA inversions, (…)
IBB Day and Scientific Session 2025
In the first half of October, two important scientific events took place at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics PAS: IBB Day (October 7) and the IBB Scientific Session 2025 (October 8–10). This year’s IBB Day was more special than usual, as it was the final event of the Institute’s 70th anniversary celebrations. The program (…)
Connecting ribosome biogenesis with cellular stress resilience
A new study reveals that the conserved ribosomal protein Rps29/uS14 links ribosome biogenesis with cellular stress adaptation. The results of this study, performed by Ulrike Topf’s team in collaboration with Rafał Tomecki at IBB PAS, were published in Nucleic Acids Research. The work describes that depletion of Rps29 disrupts the final cytoplasmic step of 18S (…)
