New mechanisms in the control of transcription
The latest research by a team from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics (IBB) of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the University of Edinburgh, published in Cell Reports, has shown that the control of RNA production is much more complex than previously thought.
Researchers from the Laboratory of Transcription Mechanisms led by Dr. Tomasz Turowski (turowskilab.ibb.edu.pl) discovered that RNA polymerases synchronize their work on rDNA genes through a phenomenon called torsional entrainment, which allows them to cooperate in an orderly convoy. The study also describes the mechanism of clearing RNA polymerase blockages on rDNA genes.
